North American Futures Conference
In March 2010, a two-day "North American Futures" conference was organized in Berkeley by the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of British Columbia with leading scholars, practitioners and media commentators to examine current public policy and political issues.
Keynote remarks by two top former ambassadors, Thomas Pickering (US) and Allan Gotlieb (Canada) provided an overview of the relationship and significant points for moving forward between Canada, the US and Mexico. In addition, panelists were convened to discuss the following pertinent issues: Culture, Identity, and the Social Contract; Managing the Economic Area; National Security and International Affairs; Managing the Arctic; Energy, the Environment, and Climate Change; The Trilateral Perspective - Mexico, US and Canada; North American Futures: The Challenges of the 21st Century.
